Wat EU-regels je geven

De veertien belangrijkste allergenen — inclusief granen die gluten bevatten — moeten in de EU worden aangegeven, zowel in verpakte voeding als in de voedselvoorziening. De regels zijn uniform genoeg dat een coeliakie reiziger die tussen lidstaten beweegt, met hetzelfde etiketteringskader te maken heeft, wat een aanzienlijk en ondergewaardeerd voordeel is.

Wat varieert is de handhaving, hoe de voedselvoorziening openbaar maakt (mondeling, op een menu, in een map), en culturele bekendheid met de aandoening. Sommige landen hebben een hoge publieke bewustwording van coeliakie; andere beschouwen het als een voorkeur.

Het praktische systeem

  1. Krijg een vertaalkaart in de lokale taal, waarin de aandoening medisch wordt vermeld, wat vermeden moet worden, en waarin gedeelde friteuses en oppervlakken worden genoemd. Een kaart gaat naar de keuken; een gesproken zin niet.
  2. Leer de ingrediëntenlijst te lezen, niet de taal. Allergenen worden typografisch benadrukt in de EU, zodat je ze kunt vinden zonder de rest te lezen.
  3. Boek accommodatie met een koelkast en een waterkoker. Het maakt een moeilijke reis tot een gewone reis.
  4. Neem veilig voedsel mee voor reisdagen. Luchthavens, stations en lange reizen zijn waar mensen in de problemen komen.
  5. Vind de lokale coeliakie- of allergievereniging. De meeste Europese landen hebben er een, verschillende publiceren lijsten van locaties.
  6. Neem voldoende medicatie mee — inclusief adrenaline-auto-injectoren waar relevant — en neem een receptbrief mee.

Verzekering en documentatie

Controleer of de reisverzekering je aandoening dekt, en neem documentatie van medicatie mee in de originele verpakking met een receptbrief. Binnen de EU dekt de Europese Gezondheidskaart noodzakelijke door de staat geleverde behandeling, wat niet hetzelfde is als reisverzekering en het vervangt deze niet.

Ja, meer dan spreken. Een kaart kan aan de keuken worden overhandigd, waar de beslissingen worden genomen.
Welke Europese landen zijn het gemakkelijkst met coeliakie?
Bewustzijn varieert meer dan regelgeving. Nationale coeliakieverenigingen zijn de beste huidige bron in plaats van enige generalisatie.
Kan ik mijn medicatie over de grens meenemen?
Over het algemeen ja in de originele verpakking met een receptbrief. Controleer specifiek op gecontroleerde stoffen.
Wat als ik in het buitenland gluten binnenkrijg?
